“It was one of the most important directives about learning I ever received, and contributed to the production of a frum skeptic. I have tried to convey the same to my own students”

    Indeed you have.
May his memory continue to be a blessing.

Clearly, R’ Fendel would be proud of you. May your own teaching, and the love and grace with which you do it, be an aliyah for his neshamah.

He was my first Rebbe at Chofetz Chaim on Kessel Street, Yeshiva Preparatory High School, which I attended between 1960 – 1964 with three of the Chait brothers, Dovid Nulman, Larry Septimus and others who became the Rabbis’ Sons and went on to become Torah scholars and educators. 4. Jewish Observer says:

He was gone from Chofetz Chaim by the time I got there in ’75 but I met him multiple times in other contexts. He was the type of man who truly represented what is glorious about the torah version of yiddishkeit and how our religion can help – not hinder – making one a better human being

  5. Baruch Cohen says:

I read his Sinai books while I was in the Chofetz Chaim Bais Medrash in Forest Hills and was inspired. My chavrusa Moshe Friedman zl, once made an appointment to meet with him one shabbos afternoon, to discuss our impressions of his analysis of Yosef HaTzaddik being kovesh his yetzer horah with Potiphar’s wife. I remember vividly how much emphasis he placed on this story and how appreciative he was that we acknowledged it.
