Thank you for this article. One thing is certain – a son like Shimmy can only come from a very special place. Whole, integrated goodness of this caliber is a result of outstanding role models. His parents will need all the nechama they can possibly get to move on but they should know that their son was a product of a beautiful home and the example they set had its desired effect. May his example serve as a beacon of light for all of us!

May Hashem comfort his entire family among all the mourners of zion and Israel. And may he be a meilitz yosher for all of klal Yisroel!

Too often … and I am personally more guilty of this than most … we hear about what is wrong with the yeshiva world and our chinuch system. In the case of Shimi, z”l, we have a chance to focus on what is right. Thank you R. Adlerstein for pointing this out. Yes, Shimi was good, good in the sense of middos tovos and ahavas chesed that are the definition of what a yeshiva education should provide. Some may have mastered more blatt gemara than he did and some less, but HKB”H – as testified to by the Chazon Ish in Emunah U’Vitachon – does not judges us quantitatively but qualitatively. And Shimi was a metzuyan in the latter, a quality bachur with a strongly developed sense of ahavas habriyos. May R. Doniel and Ruthie find solace in the impression that he made on all those who were zocheh to know him.

Shimmy was a person I barely knew you but every time I did see him, he was always happy to greet everyone with a smile and had such chessed and chain. A true bal midos and just a wonderful person. What a loss. May he be a melitz yosher for his loving family and all of klall yisroel
